Wrestling falls to Northwestern, 33-9

Wrestlers from the 2A classification gathered at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, Utah, Friday and Saturday for the 2A duels tournament.

Millard won the tournament with a record of 10-0. North Sevier finished in second place with a 9-1 record. Beaver placed third while South Summit finished fourth.

Each 2A school that participates in wrestling attended the two-day event.

Traditionally, this event is a telling preview for the region and state tournaments to come. It gives each team some indication of where it will currently stand in the quest for a state title.

South Sevier’s Joey Leavit was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in Division A. And South Summit’s McKay DeGhering was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in Division B.

Wrestlers who ended the tournament undefeated include: Chet Funk of Emery; Jacob Francis of Grand County; Dixon Richins of North Summit; Landon Carter of Manti; Joey Leavitt of South Sevier; and Jerethan Tsinnijinnie of Richfield.

North Sevier had two undefeated wrestlers, Bryce Jackman and Brendon Sorenson. South Summit’s undefeated wrestlers were Jeff McCormick, McKay DeGhering, and Conner Crandall….
