Fans of high school soccer may have noticed a few familiar names come off the board today at the annual MLS SuperDraft.

The top overall pick for the Montreal Impact, Andrew Wenger of Duke, was the 2009 Gatorade Pennsylvania State Player of the Year and was a mainstay on the U.S. U-17 and U-20 National Teams throughout his high school career.

A trio of multi-time Gatorade State Player of the Year winners also went in the first round. Casey Townsend was the 2007 and ’08 winner in Michigan. He went on to play at Maryland and was selected No. 5 by Chivas USA. Chandler Hoffman was the ’08 and ’09 winner in Alabama. He went on to play at UCLA and was selected No. 13 by the Philadelphia Union. Enzo Martinez was the ’07, ’08 and ’09 winner in South Carolina. He went on to play at North Carolina and was selected No. 17 by Real Salt Lake.

The third overall pick, Kelyn Rowe, was featured in ESPNHS magazine in December of 2009 before going on to play at UCLA. You can read that feature here.
